Meet a Mom: Marisa Montella | Hudson County Moms

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
I have one little girl, Caroline. She’s 3.5 and full of life and SASS

How long have you lived in Hudson County? What made you decide to live here?
We Live in Hoboken. I moved here 12 years ago thinking it was a stepping stone to the city. I then met my husband, while visiting one of his restaurants, met amazing friends and next thing I knew, never left!

What’s your favorite family activity in Hoboken?
Marc, Caroline and I love taking a lunch to the waterfront and having picnics. We hang out, hit the playground and walk for hours- usually wrapping it all up with some ice cream.

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop locally?
Call me biased but my husbands spots are our faves- Dozzino, Corto and Bread and Salt. Caroline and I also love our weekly Elysian girls night for burgers and morning treats from Bwe and the Hive. For shopping, I am a HUGE fan of Peper and Parlor and Margo. Amazing assortments owned by equally amazing local women.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I have worked in the fashion industry for the past twenty years and going strong but never studied this in school. I actually have a BFA in Dance. That’s where teaching at MESS comes in – besides being an amazing workout, it feeds that creative part of my mind and soul.

What are you doing to stay sane during Covid for yourself?
Lots of organizing and I tried out ALL and I mean all the virtual workouts 😉

Any tips or recommendations for parents to entertain/educate their children during this time?
Caroline is now at an age where she is big on helping. I found during covid, it kept her busy to feel involved and a part of what we were doing.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My husband Marc is an amazing dad and partner. Our schedules are complete opposite but it really allows us to pick up where one leaves off. Our parents are always on call, ready and willing and i have an amazing group of girlfriends who keep me sane and also fully in check.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world?
Locally I teach at Mess Method.  Mess is owned by the amazing Amber Hirsch. Amber has created an environment we all feel amazing, inspired and motivated. I am so proud to be a part of the magic she is building.
Corporate, I work in fashion managing International retail for a footwear company. I have been so fortunate in my career and have had the chance to see the world while learning from amazing people. I look forward to all that’s ahead.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Being a small community, I feel it gives you a chance to really get to know lots of people and feel a part of something. I take so much pride in where we live and all the people who make it as special as it is. Being a part of this community has given me a great appreciation for the hard work and importance of locally owned businesses and those who own them.
