Meet a Mom: Alicia Bolton | Hudson County Moms

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
I have one daughter with my husband Thomas, Emi who is three. I also have two step children, Kimora who is 12 and Omari who is 18.

How long have you lived in Jersey City? What made you decide to live here?
I moved to Jersey City in 2013 a few years after I graduated college. At that point in my life, I was in my early 20s and working in NYC. I wanted a fresh start, but I also wanted to be close enough to go back to my hometown when I wanted to. I also knew I didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg to live in NYC, but I wanted my commute to be pretty easy. Jersey City seemed like the perfect spot.

What’s your favorite family activity in Jersey City?
We love Liberty Science Center. When it was open, we would go about once a month. We also love to walk around Bergen-Lafayette (our current area) to find new food spots. We’re loving Mordi’s at the moment. It’s also great to just go and spend a day at the park. We happily frequent Berry Lane Park.

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop in your town?
Like I mentioned, we love Mordi’s. My family is also loving Burgerim which is a pretty new spot in Journal Square. When I need a little mom break, I take myself to brunch at Buddy’s.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I think people would be surprised to know that I love to wake up super early. I think most people assume that moms love to sleep in but I actually love the morning. I usually wake up at 5am, do a home workout, and get ready for the day so that by the time my toddler wakes up (she’s the first to wake up after me) I’m ready to go!

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My mom! She came and stayed with my husband and I for a week when my daughter was born. I’m eternally grateful for that because as a first-time mom I had no idea what to do! I would have been lost without her. I would also like to thank my sister as well as my close friends who are also mamas. They’ve always been there to support me, even is they were getting a crazy question from me at 2am!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I’m an entrepreneur at heart and I love to keep my hands in various projects. First and foremost, I’m now working with Jess on Jersey City Mom’s Network which I’m so excited about! So hey everyone! Nice to e-meet you!

In addition to that, I run the e-commerce brand B. Chic Accessories (www.bchicaccessories.com, @bchicaccessories on Instagram). I just launched a few days ago. I’m also about to launch my website, (www.aliciahq.com, @aliciahq_) which will showcase all of my various ventures. This website will also be a business because I’m actually a certified life coach, so I’ll be selling various e-books, printable planning tools, and products. Last but not least, I have a brand new venture I’m working on which is a directory of black owned e-commerce businesses here in the US. As a black woman, this project is near and dear to my heart. I’ve literally just started this today, so if you want to know more you can follow me at @aliciahq_ on Instagram. I’m always on there updating everyone about what I’m doing!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
There’s always strength in community. Whether you’re looking for a something to do with family, a daycare for your kids or just another mom to chat to, it’s important that we all pour good vibes into one another.
