On Saturday, October 10 @ 6pm – Join Jesse Yip of New Jersey’s Step Up Dance Studio in a footwork focused Intro to Salsa class. Limited In-Person spots available, or join us on zoom! Come on your own and dance solo or bring a partner – either works!

Jesse Yip is a performer, choreographer, and dance instructor, teaching Salsa/Mambo and Bachata classes. He is constantly expanding his teaching skills, emphasizing mainly on leading techniques and originality. Jesse began dancing salsa in 2001 under the instruction of Caribbean Soul’s Ismael Otero and Yesenia Peralta. Jesse obtained a distinct style, creating his own turn patterns, and mixing them in ways unthought-of. In recognition of his creativity, Jesse assisted with the group’s routine choreography and performed at many nightclubs, Latin festivals and dance socials throughout the Tri-state area. In 2006, Jesse formed Signatura Dance Company, which continues to thrive today, leaving their mark in the salsa world.

On Sunday, October 11 @ 6pm- Join Nanette Hernandez of Jersey City’s own Segunda Quimbamba for a master class introduction to the Puerto Rican Folkloric rhythms and dances. Limited in-person spots available, or join us on zoom.

Segunda Quimbamba is a Jersey City-based percussion and dance ensemble that performs authentic Bomba and Plena, the drum music of Puerto Rico. The ensemble was founded by director Juan Cartagena and his wife Nanette Hernandez as Los Pleneros de la Segunda (The Pleneros from Second Street) in 1989 during the Christmas season to preserve the Puerto Rican tradition of caroling called parrandas.

Nanette Hernandez, co-founder of Segunda Quimbamba, Is a recipient of the Folklife Apprenticeship grant by NJSCA to study Bomba Dance with master artist, Juan Usera.
